Amanda Grosh:Birds and Bees

Amanda Grosh:Birds and Bees

Exhibition Dates: January 2nd through February 14th 2009

Ms. Grosh combines traditional craft techniques like quilting and knitting with the traditional, fine art media of drawing and the new media of collage to create provocative compositions mounted in shadow boxes. The artist's "Birds and Bees" are literally connected by strings and fabrics which she utilizes to guide the viewers' gaze over the fields of pattern and stark paper. At first glance, the neutral and brightly colored works have delicate, comforting, connective and synergistic associations. As the viewer spends more time looking, however, he or she will discover secondary, underlying themes of loss, deception and entrapment.
